While cakes cool, whisk milk, sugar, and flour over medium heat until thickened.

Remove from heat and stir in coconut and vanilla. Let cool.

Using a mixer, beat butter until smooth.

Add powdered sugar, salt, vanilla, and coconut milk. Beat until fluffy.

Stack cakes, dividing coconut filling between them.
