Remember my recent post about rethinking skinny?
Your reactions to my vulnerably honest post blew me away. Many of you have experienced some of the things I talked about, whether it be envy of someone else or being made to feel that there is something wrong with your body. I loved reading your heartfelt comments, and I loved reading about how you are all on board with changing our mindsets and striving to be healthy, not just skinny.
So let’s talk about easy ways to be healthy today, shall we?
My favorite least favorite way of doing this is by getting into the gym, picking up some weights, and seeing what my body can actually do. I have a serious love-hate relationship with the gym: I love the way a good workout makes me feel (strong and…yep, healthy!), but I hate dragging my butt there.
Having a boyfriend who is a trainer doesn’t necessarily make this process any easier.
Nevertheless, workin’ on my fitness (I can’t believe I just
said typed that) is a necessary part of each week, if not each day. And working out makes me seriously need the second way that I stay healthy more than I already do: food.
I try to start off each day with a healthy breakfast – smoothies packed with frozen fruit, bananas, almond milk, and occasionally ground flaxseed have been my go-to recently – and I always eat a decent dinner, but what happens for lunch? Between trying to get to the gym, get to work, work on the blog, and possibly pick up some extra work hours…lunch tends to get a little lost. If left to my own devices, I find myself inhaling a bowl of cereal on my way out the door to work, which is hardly balanced or sustaining.
This summer, I attended BlogHer ’13 here in Chicago, during which I was invited to a luncheon hosted by Lean Cuisine. They were educating bloggers about their new line of Honestly Good meals. These meals differ from other Lean Cuisine meals in that they are made from 100% all-natural, wholesome ingredients. These meals also take a few minutes longer to cook and have a sauce that you add yourself, which means that they have had less done to them prior to packaging.
But how do they actually taste? Honestly (see what I did there?)…they’re really good! I knew that the meals were good from the two I was able to try at the luncheon, so when I was invited to try some of the other Honestly Good varieties, I jumped at the opportunity. So far the Roasted Red Pepper Chicken (pictured at the top of this post) and the Pomegranate Chicken (pictured below) have been my favorites – in fact, I could eat the whole grain orzo medley included with the Pomegranate Chicken every day and be a happy camper – but every one I have tried have been…honestly good.

Not only do they taste good, but because they are from Lean Cuisine, you know that they are super quick and easy to prepare, which makes them perfect for taking to the office or making during your only 10-15 minutes of down-time during the day. We are all busy people living in a fast-paced world; we need our balanced, healthy meals as quickly as we need everything else in our lives!
