Mango Banana Smoothie

After every holiday, I feel like I need a day or two to recover.

Certainly this has nothing to do with the fact that my mother and I prepared 8 pounds of lamb and a 13×9-inch pan of sweet potato gratin {recipe coming soon} – plus rolls, asparagus, and dessert – for 3 people this past weekend.

Nope, I’m sure that has nothing to do with it.

My family can really put away a lot of food.

One of my favorite post-holiday recovery tools is a good ol’ smoothie. A few handfuls of fruit, a splash of juice or milk – heck, you can even add some spinach for an extra nutritional punch – and you’ve got yourself a great breakfast, lunch accompaniment, or post-workout snack. They’re quick, easy, and can be changed up a million different ways.

I personally don’t care much for ice in my smoothies – probably because I don’t have a very high-powered blender and always end up with awkward chunks of ice floating around – so my preferred go-to is frozen fruit for thick, creamy smoothies. I try to always keep frozen pineapple, mango, or peaches in my freezer for quick smoothie making. All you need is a banana and a little almond milk and you’re on your way back to diet normalcy.

My other favorite smoothie-boosting trick? Flaxseed. These little guys pack a major nutritional punch, so I always keep some ground in my freezer and add one or two tablespoons to my smoothies. You could easily do the same thing with chia seeds. Now aren’t you all trendy and healthy?

  1. Easter with the Swopes sounds amazing! I’m mid-recovery here myself…went a little craaaaaaazy on easter treats and am trying it bury the regret down deep and move on. 😉 Smoothies are perfect for recovery and mango/banana sounds wonderful! Excellent thinking with the flax seeds!

  2. You didn’t even go into the baked French toast we had the next morning and then the lamb stew for lunch. I’m waddling by now, so I’m having one of these for lunch today, minus the adorable straw.

  3. Checking out your blog now! Your food photography is luscious and recipes look scrumptious, definitely will be bookmarking and coming back again! xxoo

  4. You had me at mango banana! One of my favorite combos. After all the food I’ve eaten on the road over the last couple weeks I’m gonna need one of these. Just as soon as the movers drop off my stuff and I unearth my blender. Yum!

    1. If you make this and shut your eyes reallllllll tight, maybe you can imagine you’re on a beach…and not surrounded by moving boxes. Eep!

    1. I found those particular straws at Target (I think when they had all of their Easter stuff, so kind of a lucky find), but I know you can google “paper straws” and find a ton of options online!
